Dub War is New York's seminal dubstep night, and the first event of its kind in North America. Started in June 2005 to push the sounds of UK dubstep and other forms of underground dub music, it has introduced top name UK DJ's to US audiences, including Kode 9, Loefah, Mala of Digital Mystikz, and Skream.

Top US dubsteppers Joe Nice (one of URB's Next 100 for 2007), Dave Q, and MC Juakali are the Dub War residents,
and they can be found spreading the bassweight across the US and abroad. Dub War has been featured in Urb, XLR8R, ArtForum, and TimeOut NY. Also watch for Dub War Recordings #02 in stores soon featuring Random Trio Productions from London. Visit www.dubwarnyc.com for more info.

About Kush Arora

One of the closest bredren in the extended Sub Swara family, Kush Arora makes his much anticipated NYC debut at Sub Swara 018. His new album, From Brooklyn to SF, is set to blow minds across the globe. It is a journey through Dread Bass, dub/dubstep, hip hop and desi inflected digi dancehall , featuring several of the most adventurous vocalists and musicians in North America. From the deep meditative dub of Seed Halfi Grow to the full on dancefloor bass weight of Spread the Word, the album redefines the musical landscape. Kush has shared the bill with Dr. Isreal, Sf's Dhamaal Soundsystem, opened for Theivery Corp, and regularly plays the 10 year long running Dub Mission in San Francisco. Currently he holds a monthly residency at Surya Dub located at SF's Club 6 with contemporaries forging the Dread Bass movement internationally and will be performing his signature dubwise live PA set at Sub Swara alongside SS's own MC Juakali. Visit www.kusharora.com and www.myspace.com/kusharoramusic for more info.

and if you can travel, you have to go to STEREO in Montreal. It has the best sound system in North America. It was designed by Angel Morrez and Phil Smith (the guy who designed the original SOUND FACTORY sound system in NYC). It is infact the same system as the old one from the Factory, it doesnt get better than that.

the ambient mafia

like downtempo join our tribe http://tribes.tribe.net/ambientmafia

The Ambient Mafia is a San Francisco-based DJ collective that specializes in downtempo, or chill music.

Back in 1999, a group of chill DJs decided to band together to represent the side of DJ culture that was more interested in creating a cool atmosphere than in what the Future Sound of London best described as the “indiscreet blowjob” side of the DJ scene. Not that we don’t love getting indiscreet blowjobs. We do. Especially our girls.

Anyway, the Mafia quickly made a name for itself on the then-thriving massive scene. Promoters soon learned the value of having a skilled downtempo crew in their chill rooms, as opposed to their wannabe DJ friends trainwrecking their way thru a crate of trance b-sides.

With a few exceptions, the days of the massive are over, but the Ambient Mafia continues to be a visible presence on the local scene through residencies and appearances at venues like Anu, 111 Minna, Space 550 and various underground venues.

Times change, but the Mafia mission remains the same – to give people music that makes them think and dance and … chill.

The Sub Swara Crew sends massive respect to all of you who came out and ram-jammed the spot and created a truly epic and ground-breaking night at the last edition of SS! Mad respect to to all the crews, communities, friends, and family who came together.

Trigger Holographic Bassforms Project_Jan6th_

!!!!!Friday January 6th!!!!!!

Human Hologram Interference Project…!
The brain creates this experience some call reality in a way not too dissimilar to how a hologram works. Our mission is to awaken the human consciousness through low frequencies with advanced computer programming and intuitive musical arrangements, allowing you to connect to a bigger awareness of ones self. The way Electro Breakbeat music uses electronic sounds and the way breakbeats or just breaks are programmed and played, truly has the ability through its rhythmic tribal/shamanic nature to connect the soul to the overmind (or godhead) or your inter dimensional time travelling self.

Trigger Records, RootaBreaka, Desiree, and Mobius Audiophile are proud to present the first Trigger USA All-Nighter. Join us, Friday January 6th, for a truly special experience as we reconstruct our holographic reality with low-frequency soundwaves and ultra-freaky electro beats.

All the way from the U.K. Representing Trigger Holographic Bassforms Project:

Lawgiverz
Lawgiverz a.k.a. R-Kidz and Noize have been dropping audio bombs for the last fi ve years on Botchit & Scarper, Trigger Recordings and more. Lawgiverz have produced, programmed and remixed with a bizarre selection of artists such as Jeff Beck, Dave Stewart and The Human League. They would like you to know that none of this really matters. Just that if you find yourself in front of the Trigger sound system during their laptop and turntable set, prepare to be destroyed with a helping of alien love in the Electrobreaks style. Their live show incorporates multiple decks, CDJ’s and a laptop and the pair mix, scratch and basically remix every track they drop!

Kosmikneil
Kosmikneils relationship with sound systems started with the free festival scene of the 80’s/90’s. This set the blueprint for Trigger, the club night Neil started in 1994, which has gained worldwide recognition. Neil’s dedication and passion for the sound that moves him is notorious and has seen him get bookings all over the UK and USA. As well as being resident DJ at Trigger and DJ’ing all over the world, he has twice attended the Miami Winter Music Conference with the Fuel Records crew and the infamous Fuel sound system cars, and toured the States alongside Tipper. In 2003 Neil formed Trigger Recordings to allow a greater audience to be part of the project, beginning with the renowned ‘Holographic Bassforms’ CD and now approaching its 6th vinyl release.

Deepest subs? Car and event.

Now that I've found a tribe that I can really dig I must know which companies are putting out the best subs for car audio and for large scale sound systems.

I have had JBL's rock my fucking worls several times but I heard that they no longer produce that same kind of speakers that they used to due to making the in a new country or something. (info?)

BAG END can push alot of air and get quite low as well but there is something missing.
Sol System from Burning Man uses COMMUNITY which thump something wicked. Thank you Sol System.

Then there is TURBO SOUND.
I love these speakers for clarity but hadn't heard them really get low untill a festival up in Canada. OH my GOD!
It was so much fucking Bass! (sigh)

So, who are the major players out there people? Which subs do you think pump hardest?

I dont listen to electronic music per say, I listen to anything that rattles my trunk. There is nothing my car can do sexier then a low frequency slide, sends shivers up and down yer spine.heh. I just bought 2 1000 watt infinity 10's and a koiller 1000 watt amp. I luv da bass, yup. My metal band plays in drop d so that our bass stands straight up, nothing worse then listening to music and hearing nothing but an occasional pop from the subs.

Hey All,
Hope you don't mind me posting here. I am a drummer percussionist with a BA in Music Performance. I am working with a very talented female singer/songwriter who's style is very similar to Ani De'Franco but a little more "radio friendly". I bring in a earthy feel somewhat similar to Rusted Root with kit and hand drums from time to time. We need an Earthy Bass player that can spice it up a bit and hang with me. You need to able able to play it straight but also be able to lay down some tasty funk. While she has a lot of music already, she is willing to let the music evolve and reflect the influence of each member. Male or female welcome - 22-30 years old would be best but open to all. You just have to hang. Please be able to rip it up. Light rehearsal schedule (because we're good enough to not have to) and a few performances a month. Write me at carter7j@yahoo.com. All the best.

aquasky vs. crash berlin starring kool keith
"movin the hype track"
...in stores now!!
just released this week worldwide on PASSENGER RECORDS

heres the reviews and support

COMMENTS

Like this record a lot - it's our number 2 best breaks record of the month (after the new plumps 12", natch) kool keith is still sounding very kool! ..... -senior music ed at Mixmag

DJ MAGAZINE - 4 Stars "Full-on buzzbass blast of righteous funked up noise"

"Superb track. Dropped it in Manchester –worked a treat! Nice work lads." –Matt Callanan (Phantom Beats, Spectrum, Various)

Reactions are very strong thus far for Aquasky Vs Crash Berlin feat. Kool Keith ’s ‘Movin ’The Hype Track ’, with the majority of DJs actively backing at least one of the mixes. Key Supporters getting on board at this stage include Phantom Beats, Smithmonger and The Capoeira Twins, amongst others.

"Rockin ’! Production is excellent. Kool Keith is (and always was) The Man! Nice one!" –Tim Hancock (Capoeira Twins)

Radio Support is extremely strong with plays on; - Radio 1 from Steve Lamacq and Annie Nightingale, Capital from Ali B (Currently #13 in the Capital Club Chart) as well as spot plays on Cable Radio, Breaks FM, NSB Radio, Phantom FM and Juice FM.

"This single is an absolute crossover monster, crossing the central reservation of the dance music and pop chart musical highway, like a soup ’ed up truck. Breaks & Rock & Rap = The Future!!" –Clive Craske (Cable Radio)

"What a combination! The masters of breakbeat and the master of old school rap. Aquasky/Crash Berlin can do no wrong and the moment - Kool Keith never has. If breaks is going to come to the forefront soon this tune will no doubt have helped greatly. Any chance of the a cappella?" –Johnny 1 Move (Chibuku, Subfunk, Various)

Reactions are still filtering in for ‘Movin ’The Hype Track ’and as previously the vibe is extremely positive, with all the DJs this week backing at least one of the mixes. Key Support comes courtesy of The Freestylers ’Matt Cantor, Adam H and Cibuku ’s Johnny 1 Move.

"Big hype around this one and plenty requested already. Featured on the Waxworks mix last week and dropped in Ibiza to a great response." –Adam H (Juice FM, The Honey Club, Various)

Aquasky keep the pressure on via their Passenger label with a collaborative effort that rocks like the proverbial. The trio ’s gritty jump up flow is in full effect on this cut and, combined with the legendary Kool Keith on mic-hype duty, makes for a slab of sonic sorcery that ’s sure to satisfy the party-hard breaks heads. Full-vox and dub mixes mean both club and radio angles are covered..... KNOWLEDGE MAGAZINE UK

Radio Support is still looking strong, with the main mix being featured on Adam H ’s Juice FM show. London pirate Ruud Awakening are supporting on the Stranger show, whilst East Anglia pirate station Stylish FM also add their weight, thanks to DJ Perplex. Breaks FM and Capital also reaffirm support.

The dub mix is seeing a lot of dance floor action at the hands of the DJs but the original mix is still taking most of the plaudits. Average DJ reaction this week is 7.8/10, with average floor reaction 7.7/10

Some friends and myself will be performing live tomorrow night (Saturday the 25th) @ 511 Harrison, at about 3:00 AM'ish. Expect plenty of low frequency illness, as well as being prepared to get your groove on. Free/donation. Peace

Two big 8" two-way bookshelfs, two monster 2X8" three-way theater speakers, and one thumpin' customized 10" sub, and the plass was slammin'!! Achingly tight, yet subterranian, vibrations for my 30th birthday bash last weekend. Fun stuff!

Till the cops came!

anyway, we raged on but not as loudly.

What is crate diggin?

What is crate diggin?

It's endless boxes of Perry Como and Herb Alpert.

It's holding the record at an angle to the light and trying to decide whether it's too scratched to spend a quarter on.

It's being allergic to mildew and not giving a ****.

It's spending twenty bucks and going home with an armful of records that you add to the ever-growing stack that never get a chance to listen to.

It's not liking any of those albums once you do get around to listening to them.

It's going back a year later and discovering a bunch of dope cuts from those very same albums.

It's finding weird, funky music that nobody's ever heard of.

It's judging a book by its cover.

It's buying a fourth copy of a Stevie Wonder album, for when the other three eventually get worn out.

It's wondering why people have huge collections of only Christmas music.

It's a professional swap meet carnie trying to sell you a warped Beatles album for $50.

It's some old lady selling you the same Beatles album, in mint condition, for a dollar.

It's "$5 an album or $1 for the whole box."

It's passing on those kind of deals.

It's big ole boxes of ruined 45s without any sleeves.

It's wishing that white people had better taste in music.

It's promising yourself that you won't buy any more records until you clear some space on the shelves by getting rid of all the ones that really, truly suck.

It's buying more anyways.

Hi, I am trying to remember the name of a soundsystem I used to see at alot of the Los Angelas gatherings in the Late 90's...it had these huge YELLOW bass bins that you could sit in...really awesome sound and they always attacked the "speaker-huggers"

Why you should add a subwoofer to your stereo / DJ setup

Why should you add a subwoofer to your DJ setup?

Most loudspeakers, particularly the smaller ones, are simply not capable of reproducing the lower bass frequencies (no matter what the specifications claim).

If the loudspeakers are relieved from trying to play the lower bass frequencies, they will sound better at higher volume levels.

In essence, a subwoofer produces Bass -
the lower range of audio frequencies up to approximately 250 Hz.

The five basic types of subwoofers systems are: sealed, ported, bandpass, passive radiator and transmission line systems.

When properly setup a subwoofer makes the difference between hearing the bass and FEELING THE BASS.
